Creative Advent idea that involves the church & wider community

A church in Deptford, South London chose a highly innovative and visual way to celebrate advent. On the flat roof at the front of the church building, every day in advent, a new large wooden box has been erected on the roof of the church. Each advent box is decorated to represent a Christmas song or carol including We Three Kings, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Jingle Bells, Let it Snow and I wish it could be Christmas Every Day. The boxes have been made by church members, local community groups, schools and local artists.

You can see more of the boxes in close-up on The Bear Church’s Facebook page.

This is a really superb example of a creative arts project that brings the church outside into the community. The artworks look so professional but many were created by friends of mine, in their housegroups or as families. This does show the latent creativity we all have inside.
