We get asked all the time why we’ve not developed any resources for the many flautists, violinists, saxophonists, brass players etc who make up a sizable sample of Christian musicians.
Well we’ve currently got an orchestral instruments DVD in production. It won’t be teaching how to play the instruments as such but instead will guide existing players into improvised playing. Generally classical players know their scales and basic music theory really well. Learning to improvise its really just a case of understanding the key the music is in and playing something tasteful within the key. And avoiding the melody line of course…….
Here’s Musicademy’s Marie Page giving some tips and advice for orchestral instrumentalists.
Part of our Video Shorts series, Musicademy’s Andy Chamberlain gives some ideas on rehearsing.
Here is a track from our new Worship Backing Band DVDs. Its Brenton Brown and Ken Riley’s Everlasting God and this track has the guitars taken out so its ideal for guitarists to play along to. On the DVD itself you can play it with the full mix or without guitar, drums, bass, keys or vocals.
If you’re not sure how the guitar part goes, we teach this on a Song Learner lesson.
