Newsletter - 29 May 2009

By Marie Page | May 29, 2009

I emailed out our newseltter (which is really just a summary of blog posts from the last week or so over the last two days) and we’ve had so many comments on the blog. Lots of debate on the rights and wrongs of encouraging clapping and banner waving in church. Really interesting to see how on the one hand we love to be inclusive and encourage people to be more abandoned in worship but on the other as musicians how frustrated we can get when they don’t clap in time!

Anyway, the newsletter itself is below. Click through on anything you fancy reading about. I’ll post Chico’s “Things that Frustrate Worship Leaders part 2″ soon.

Our new worship backing band DVDs are selling well. They come with projected onscreen words and loads of play lists for churches and housegroups and with the addition of onscreen chords for musicians. Feedback to date has been what great value they are for 54 high quality tracks - and lots of orders from churches who don’t have a worship leader for this Sunday!

Click below for the latest from the Musicademy blog:

  • What pedals do I need to get started in a worship band - part 2
  • Free video clip on using orchestral instruments in worship
  • People that frustrate worship leaders - part 1
  • Creative ideas on song writing
  • Ask the Expert - Is burning CDs from itunes legal when its for educational purposes?
  • Another guest post from Jonny Baker with a worship idea for communion as an act of protest - Not in my name
  • And a rockumentary from the David Crowder Band

Our new Advanced Vocal Work-Out CD is getting some great feedback. You can listen to sample tracks, and buy the CD or MP3 download at our webstore.

We’ve also found that a number of churches are wanting to buy multiple copies of the new worship backing band DVDs either for their housegroups of their worship teams so we’ve created some bundle packs with discounts of up to 25% for multiple copies.

There have been loads of comments on Andy’s new series What pedals do I need to start playing guitar in a worship band as well as some more advice on holding a pick without slipping.

Click below for the latest from the Musicademy blog:

  • Video short on rehearsal tips and ideas for worship musicians
  • Ask the Expert - Improvisation skills for piano
  • Chord of the month - Emaj9
  • What to include in a music chart
  • Early bird discount to Kingsway’s Mission Worship Conference
  • People really liked Jonny Baker’s post on combining post modern culture and liturgy so he has given us a couple of worship ideas for communion - communion by numbers and broken table
