New Remembrance Day Hymn

Former Musicademy drum tutor Richard Morgan is now a school music teacher and he has written a new hymn for Remembrance Day. Your congregation will recognise the tune (it is Londonderry Air / O Danny Boy) so it should be a fairly easy new hymn to teach this weekend:

In Every Land

In every land and every generation
Great wars have raged; Brought suffering and pain
Man’s evil schemes make savage once great nations
Then we forget, and charge to war again

Yet still your song is sung though chaos rages
A song of hope refusing to be stilled
Your love made known, a promise through the ages
One that has been and one day yet shall be fulfilled

O God of all, you reign and yet you suffer
For in your grace you grant we choose our way
And though you call and bid us Thou to follow
We close our ears and turn our hearts away

With hardened hearts we fail to love our neighbour
Yet you are found amongst the least of these
Though not the rich the mighty or entitled
But the oppressed, the broken, poor and refugees

So God of Peace let naught our faith diminish
Let not our footsteps falter in your ways
and with your love as guide and inspiration
Grant we may learn to live in peace for all our days
