A few things about talent:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s relative.<\/strong> A church of 5000 will likely require a different level of talent than a church of 50. Each ministry needs to determine what is needed. As a team grows and changes, so does the demand for better talent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s developable. <\/strong>Whatever hard-wired ability you have, it has to be cultivated through practice, hard-work and experience. And if you\u2019re using this talent for ministry, you\u2019re obligated to develop it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s not a spiritual gift. <\/strong>Musical talent is a tool used in conjunction with the spiritual gifts. My chief reason for making this point is not to argue a gray area, but to keep people from elevating their talent to a place of entitlement: e.g. \u201cIt\u2019s my \u2018spiritual\u2019 gift, so I need to be on this team\u2026or sing this solo\u2026etc.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s not enough. <\/strong>John Maxwell wrote an entire book on this subject. We start here with talent, because it IS necessary. But it can\u2019t be the only element that matters for a worship musician.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Read Scripture: Psalm 33:1-3<\/h2>\n<p>Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;\u00a0it is fitting for the upright to praise him.<br \/>\nPraise the LORD with the harp;\u00a0make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.<br \/>\nSing to him a new song;\u00a0play skillfully, and shout for joy. What are the drawbacks?<br \/>\n<strong><em>Follow-up: <\/em><\/strong>If your ministry has an audition\/interview process: How can it be improved?<br \/>\nIf you don\u2019t have an audition process, should you consider it?
