Who is it for?

The parts are taught in a copy, learn and play along style so many ability levels can learn the training. But players will get the most use from Advanced Bass if they have a solid understanding of the fundamental techniques outlined in the Musicademy Intermediate Bass Course. These include a knowledge the full fretboard, how keys, scales and arpeggios are constructed, how major, minor and extended chords are created and a general working knowledge of the bass to a competent live playing standard.

Is there anything ability-wise between Beginners and Intermediate?

Yes, the Song Learner Series is perfect for people who have completed the Beginners DVDs and want to consolidate their playing by learning some great bass parts to other worship songs before progressing to the Intermediate DVDs. The Song Learners are available in 3 DVDs or as individually downloadable online lessons.

Too bad I didn't have these DVDs 20 years ago | Review by Bassist

I love to play the bass in my church, and all I knew was not much. I was a beginner for many, many years.
I spent a lot of money before, buying expensive books hoping to learn more but in the end they collected dust on the shelf or went for recycle long time ago.
...So I decided to give a try at first buying the Worship Bass Beginners and in less than a month I bought the Worship Bass Intermediate all three DVD's, The Song Learner Series for Bass all three DVD's and the Advanced Bass in Worship 3 DVD Box Set.
Trust me, every penny was worth it.
If you want to save money go ahead and buy those DVD's you won't be disappointed.
I wish I had them 20 years ago.
God Bless you all at Musicademy for doing such a great job producing those videos for all of us who want to Praise God in our Churches.

I would recommend split screen so that we can see both hands, this would help a lot. | Review by surf'n joe

Recommend split screen so that both hands are visable. This would help since there is advanced technique in both hands

Musicademy replies:
Good point Joe. We try to show close ups of both hands at full screen. The trouble with split screen is that you reduce the size of each mini screen by a lot more than half. That can make it quite difficult to follow. But we'll bear that in mind for future projects.

This was an excellent resource for our young bass players. I taught them from knowing how to play/ teach guitar but with that limited experience, they were limited. But this DVD gave them GREAT practical tips that apply to tons of worship tunes. THANKS SO MUCH for supplying this excellent resource for worship!

The combination of Matt playing the notes slowly and naming them aloud and playing to the track makes for a great learning experience that is easy to follow and grasp.
Also really like the option of playing the track with bass and w/o bass.
A well put together video overall!!

This is a great resource for bass players at all levels. We bought Beginner and Advance Bass and have benefitted by them greatly! Well produced and put together! Great teachers too! Our guys have been watching them and have enjoyed them. Great information, taught very well, very thorough, and professionally put together. We just bought the Intermediate Guitar DVD's and I am looking forward to watching them as well. Thank you for putting these resources together so that we can become more excellent at what we do! I would recommend these resources to any church that is wanting to move forward and grow their talent.

An excellent resource for taking bass that bit further | Review by Monsterpuss

Having recently been given this I've been very impressed with it. Matt gives some great ideas for riffs, melodic fills and grooves. There is a large repertoire of songs included but once Matt's principles have been grasped they can be applied to other songs without a problem - the only limit is your creativity.
It would be helpful if the backing tracks provided were also available in MP3 format so that they can be transposed into the keys we'll be playing them in for practice. Notation of Matt's bass lines would also be a nice-to-have bonus.

I've been to worship seminars before and have gone to bass clinics. I have to admit that I got very little out of those seminars. Simply because they try to cram so much into the hour that they have and because a lick or progression will go by so quick you don't have time to catch it, let alone get it under your fingers-which is where it really needs to be. This DVD series allows for all of that! I haven't finished the series yet, which is actually a positive in my mind. I'm taking the time to get it under my fingers. There are grooves that fit very well with my playing and that I'll incorporate into my every week playing. Other fills I probably won't-but they've been good exercises for me to learn. The way I use the series is to "burn" through the whole song one time, then I go back and start working each little section. I play it on my computer with my bass in my lap. I am continually pausing the DVD, playing my bass, then restarting the DVD. You can't do that in a seminar! The DVD is perfectly laid out for this style of learning. I'd highly recommend this!
